What's This?

Los Angeles Lakers will make a big push to trade for Indiana Pacers superstar Paul George this offseason, according to popular sports analyst Bill Simmons.

According to Simmons, the Lakers will be willing to offer D’Angelo Russell and the top-3 protected draft pick to land the Pacers forward. Simmons, currently working with HBO, sent shockwaves through Laker Nation Wednesday with the following tweets:

If the Lakers win the Draft Lottery on May 17, they would greatly enhance their chances of luring Indiana into giving away their franchise player. However, since there is a major drop-off in talent after Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, it’s unlikely that the No. 3 pick would create too much interest among other teams. Of course, there is still a 44% chance that Lakers lose their pick.

Paul George: Should Lakers trade No. 1 pick?

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about the Lakers willing to trade their top-3 protected draft pick to land a superstar. After Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said that trading the pick was an option, Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd said on Tuesday that the Purple & Gold will trade the pick even if they win the NBA Draft Lottery on May 17.

“I’ve now been told by two separate sources, even if the Lakers get the No. 1 pick they’re trading it. They don’t want to rebuild anymore. They want to get a star NBA player. They will call teams if they get the No. 1 pick and shop it around the league,” Cowherd said during The Herd on Tuesday.

Paul George grew up idolizing Kobe Bryant. Is PG-13 the right man to fill Bryant’s shoes and become the next box office attraction at Staples Center? George has definitely shown the killer instinct and “take over gene” to be the alpha male and franchise player of a storied franchise. Will the stars align for Lakers and George?

Should the Lakers risk a potential future all-star in D’Angelo Russell and the prospective top-3 pick for an established superstar?  Can Pacers president Larry Bird be persuaded? The Draft Lottery is less than two weeks away. Stay tuned for the latest on this development.
