On Wednesday night, the adoration of Lady Gaga for David Bowie went on display, two days after the “Born This Way” singer delivered a touching tribute at the Grammy Awards.
The 29-year-old Lady Gaga, famous for her self-empowering fashion, was wearing a revealing black dress showing off the singer’s freshly healed David Bowie tattoo. She was arriving at New York City’s Rainbow Room for a performance at a V magazine party.
According to People, the cutout above Lady Gaga’s waistline framed the freshly-healed skin art, which Gaga got on Saturday night in Los Angeles to honor the late Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee following his death due to cancer in January.
L.A. Times states that the “American Horror Story: Hotel” actress made it known that she was getting her latest ink, a slight variation of David Bowie’s iconic headshot from the legend’s 1973 “Aladdin Sane” album.
Lady Gaga’s latest skin art was done by tattoo artist Mark Mahoney, whose process was chronicled by Gaga on Snapchat.
The performance of Gaga at the event earned her praise from stars such as Reese Witherspoon and Ellen DeGeneres. Gaga stated regarding her admiration to David Bowie, “When I fell in love with the legend David Bowie, is when I was living on the Lower East Side in New York City, I always felt that David Bowie’s glamor was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls.”
The Sun claims that Gaga made it certain that the design was being shown off while attending the event at the Rainbow Rooms.
However, on Monday, Duncan Jones, David Bowie’s son, slammed Lady Gaga’s tribute via Twitter.
