The San Francisco Police Department recently announced that it has managed to find and apprehend two of the three escapees who were discovered missing at the Orange County Central Men’s Jail last January 22.
Just before 9 a.m. on Saturday, the police department said that a citizen flagged down its officers with regards to a suspicious vehicle and a person matching an escapee’s description. During a pursuit around Kezar Stadium and the Park District Police Station, officers managed to apprehend Hoseein Nayeri. Meanwhile, they also found Jonathan Tieu hiding inside a stolen van. Tieu was said to have been apprehended “without further incident.” Both escapees have been transported to the Park Station for further investigation.
More Travel Alerts Issued Due To The Zika Virus
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had recently announced it is adding two more countries to its recent travel alerts due to the continuous spread of the Zika virus in the Americas.
Travel alerts have recently been issued to destinations Dominican Republic and United States Virgin Islands. Previously, there have also been travel alerts issued in other regions and countries where there is an active transmission of the Zika virus in progress. These include the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory; Barbados; Bolivia; Brazil; Cape Verde; Colombia; Ecuador; El Salvador; French Guiana; Guadeloupe; Guatemala; Guyana; Haiti; Honduras; Martinique; Mexico; Panama; Paraguay; Saint Martin; Samoa; Suriname; and Venezuela.
The CDC says pregnant women should especially take precaution against the Zika virus by avoiding the stated areas as well as taking steps to prevent mosquito bites. There is currently no vaccine or medicine to treat the virus.
Iran Awards Soldiers Who Seized American Sailors
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, has awarded medals of distinction to the revolutionary guards who had seized the American sailors and their vessels last January.
Khamenei had met with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy and commended the men for “arresting the trespassers.” The Supreme Leader believes that what happened to the American sailors was “an act of God, who brought Americans into our waters so they would be arrested through your timely action and in that manner with their hands held above their heads.”
According to Iran state media, Khamenei awarded the “Faith” Medal to IRGC Navy commander Sardar Fadavi, along with four other commanders. At the same time, Khamenei had also reportedly granted the promotion of other commanders and personnel who were involved in the detainment of the sailors.
Rwanda Arrests ISIS Operatives
Rwanda, a predominantly Christian country in East Africa, has reportedly made its first arrests concerning ISIS.
According to a report from The Clarion Project, Rwanda police had arrested a deputy imam and accused him of recruiting for ISIS. He was shot when tried to escape. Meanwhile, a search of the imam’s mosque revealed extremist materials, social media messages and possible whereabouts of suspected jihadis. Rwanda police also reports that there are other suspects who had managed to escape the country.
Actress Vanessa Hudgens Mourns Father’s Passing
It was a bittersweet moment for actress Vanessa Hudgens. Just hours before the premiere of the Fox production “Grease: Live,” the 27-year-old actress announced on Twitter that her father had passed away.
In her tweet, Hudgens said, “I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer.” According to the Daily Mail, the “High School Musical Star” had revealed onstage that her dad was diagnosed with cancer when she accepted the Breakthrough Performer award at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards. During her speech, Hudgens also revealed that her boyfriend, actor Austin Butler, had also lost his mother to the disease.
And now, while she mourns for her father, Hudgens remains determined to take to the stage. She said, “Tonight, I do the show in his honor.”
