ISIS Confirms ‘Jihadi John’ Is Dead
ISIS has just confirmed the death of Abū Muhārib al-Muhājir or Jihadi John through an article in the latest of issue of the Islamic State’s English magazine, Dabiq. The article went on to explore Jihadi John’s life from when he was a young boy in London to the time Islamic State fighter “embark upon the path of hijrah and jihad” in 2005. The article also stated that Jihadi John’s activities with jihadists Bilāl al-Bar- jāwī and Muhammad Saqr was what got the attention of MI5, who started bugging his devices while keeping him on constant surveillance.
According to the Islamic State, “On Thursday, the 29th of Muharram, 1437 (November 12, 2015), Abū Muhārib finally achieved shahādah for the cause of Allah.” Jihadi John was said to have died during a targeted drone strike that destroyed his car and killed him instantly.”
Kerry ‘Frustrated And Angry’ At Iran After Holding Sailors At Gunpoint
Tensions may run high between the U.S. and Iran after the Iranians released a footage of the detained U.S. sailors being held at gunpoint. The U.S. military has also said that the detained U.S. navy men also had a verbal exchange with Iranian personnel who also pulled out two SIM cards from their satellite phones, according to a report from Reuters. Following the release of the footage, Secretary of State John Kerry told CNN, “I was very angry. I was very, very frustrated and angry that that was released.” Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy maintains that at the time of their detainment, they had received communication from the Iranians saying that the sailors were “safe and healthy.”
Eagles Guitarist Passes Away
Glen Frey, a guitarist for the legendary band Eagles, has passed away. The group confirmed his death on their website, saying that Frey had died in New York City last January 18 as he suffered from complications resulting from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia. Of his passing, the group says, “Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.”
No Black Nominees At The Oscars Again, Stars Urge Boycott
The Academy Awards is facing a lot of criticism after it had decided to exclude films such as “Straight Outta Compton,” “Concussion” and “Beasts of No Nation” from this years nominees. Celebrities like director Spike Lee and actress Jada Pinkett Smith have called for a boycott of the Oscars. Meanwhile, Academy President Cherly Boone Isaacs has told Deadline that while she is disappointed with the exclusion of the said films, it should not “take away the greatness (of the films nominated).” She also declares, “This has been a great year in film.”
