Kesha Gets $250,000 From Taylor Swift, But Are The Allegations True?
Kesha was emotional when New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich did not grant the injunction the “Tik Tok” singer filed against Dr. Luke, the star’s executive producer on two albums. After she claimed that Dr. Luke had abused and controlled her life, Taylor Swift donated $250,000 to the singer. Other personalities in the entertainment industry reflected their support as well.Advertisement
Kesha and Dr. Luke’s feud started as early as 2014. Kesha filed a lawsuit against the executive producer to relieve herself from working with him and Sony Music along with a remedy for damages. However, last week, Justice Kornreich, the presider of the case, did not award Kesha the injunction she prayed for.
As reported by Rolling Stone, the suit indicates, “Ms. Sebert [Kesha] wholly believed that Dr. Luke had the power and money to carry out his threats; she therefore never dared talk about, let alone report, what Dr. Luke had done to her.” The suit claims that Dr. Luke sexually assaulted, harassed, and inflicted emotional distress towards Kesha, among others.
However, last 2011, Kesha released a deposition that indicated Dr. Luke never made any advances towards her.
With respect to Dr. Luke’s side, it was revealed that Kesha had refused to record with him and that her act purported to extortion, an act prohibited through the contact she consigned with the executive producer. Furthermore, Kornreich also claimed that there was lack of evidence for Kesha’s claims to be considered.
The producer’s lawyer also released an official statement that reads, “The New York County Supreme Court on Friday found that Kesha is already ‘free’ to record and release music without working with Dr. Luke as a producer if she doesn’t want to. Any claim that she isn’t ‘free’ is a myth. As Dr. Luke has said repeatedly, the allegations against him are outright lies that have been advanced to extort a contract renegotiation and money.”
In other news, Hollywood Reporter revealed that Taylor Swift donated $250,000 to Kesha as a sign of support. The “Bad Blood” singer’s representative stated, “In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time.”
Apart from Swift, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Demi Lovato also showed support for their fellow female artist.
Despite allegations against Dr. Luke, the suit against him filed by Kesha faltered. However, supporters of Kesha took to social media and showed their support for the singer by using the #FreeKesha hashtag.
