After years of seemingly endless speculations that Kenny Chesney is gay, her ex-wife Renée Zellweger has finally spoken up about it.
Did the 47-year-old actress “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” actress just confirm about the rumored sexuality of the 48-year-old country music singer?
Would her latest interview finally put an end to the gay rumors as the alleged real reason of their divorce?
It can be recalled that Zellweger cited “fraud” as her reason for wanting to end her four-month marriage with Chesney in 2005.
As she sat down with Advocate, the actress was made to respond to the long-standing allegation that her former spouse is gay and that it was her real motivation for calling it quits.
Renée Zellweger Breaks Her Silence
“I forgot about that,” she said. “It’s a pretty big thing to forget, isn’t it? That made me sad.”
“It made me sad that somehow people were using that as a way to be cruel and calling someone gay as a pejorative, which has fateful consequences,” she added. “Of course, there’s the bigger-picture problem of why anyone had to make up a story at all.”
When asked if she was tempted to “publicly jump” to the defense of Chesney, Zellweger had this to say, “Well, I’d said all I needed to say on that subject. I’m an old-fashioned gal who doesn’t feel it’s appropriate to hang out your laundry on the lawn.”
She even continued to point out that it is an “unnecessary ugliness” to keep on discussing about it.
Amid this response, Hollywood Life surmised that it was “still not a direct denial about Kenny’s sexuality.”
Back in 2007, Chesney denied the rumors, including the one citing his alleged sexual preference as the reason of his divorce from Zellweger, E! News reported.
“It’s not true. Period. Maybe I should have come out and said, ‘No, I’m not [gay],’ but I didn’t want to draw any more attention to it,” he said. “I didn’t have to prove to anybody that I wasn’t [gay]. I didn’t feel like I really did.”
