Juneau, Alaska Mayor Greg Fisk Found Dead

Greg Fisk, the mayor of Juneau, Alaska, was discovered dead in his home on Monday.


A man who has not been identified called the police at 3:34 p.m. and reported a deceased person in Fisk’s house. Fisk was declared dead at the scene. Police have not determined whether the death was suspicious, nor have they commented on the cause of the death.

An investigation was ongoing, a police spokeswoman said. She did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding Fisk’s death.

A fisheries consultant, Fisk unseated Merrill Sanford last month, as reported by Reuters. City’s deputy mayor and Assembly member, Mary Becker, said, “It’s a devastating event. He was a great person and he will be missed. He was a wonderful person and a friend, and from the calls I’ve been receiving tonight, I’m not the only one who felt he was wonderful person and a good friend to Juneau.” She added that Fisk, who was due to serve till 2018, advocated economic development and other causes.

As reported by NBC News, Fisk’s campaign literature states that he moved to Alaska in 1959, and had resided in Juneau for 34 years.
