Josh Samman, the 28 year old middle weight star of Ultimate Fighter was pronounced dead on October 5 in South Florida, after fighting coma for 5 days.
Gilbert Jamal Smith, a fellow Ultimate Fighter, announced his death on Instagram.
Guardian too reports, that the officials at the hospital in Florida have confirmed his death.
A friend of Samman had found him last Thursday in his apartment in an unresponsive state. He even found Troy Kirkingburg, the roommate of Samman, alongside him and called in 911 immediately. According to The Tallahassee Democrat, even the Police stated that it’s “call of a possible drug overdose”.
The authorities on arrival, took Samman to the hospital and found Kirkingburg dead. The cause of death is still being examined by the officials, although no foul play has been suspected. Samman has been in coma since the incident.
Samman’s mother in a statement to FOX Sports said “Josh is still in a coma, and more tests are being done. That is the latest update on my son’s condition. And in spite of speculation, there was no heroin found in Josh’s system whatsoever. No matter what people are posting on social media.”
She even added that “The reason I am making this statement is, because Josh touched so many lives, and loved inspiring others, especially young people. I don’t want them to lose faith in him, and whatever he brought out in them, because of the lies. He would want them to never give up.”
In 2013, Samman had joined the UFC roster, and in lower competitions he amassed a 9-2 record. Winning his first 3 fights he brought home bonuses for Performance of the Night for stoppage wins against Caio Magalhães and Eddie Gordon. Losses to Tim Boetsch and Tamdan McCrory consecutively sunk him to No31 in middleweight rankings of the organization.
A “Go Fund Me Page” is helping Kirkingburg’s family to pay for the funeral expenses.
