Jeremy Lin had 19 points, 5 rebounds, an assist and a block as the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Atlanta Hawks 107-84 Wednesday to snap their seven-game losing streak.
Kemba Walker top-scored for the Hornets with 23 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Nicolas Batum (6 points, 10 assists, 2 rebounds) replaced Lin in the starting line-up after missing several games with a toe injury. Batum’s return made an instant impact as Hornets thrived on both ends of the floor. |Box Score|
With Al Jefferson still out with injury, Cody Zeller filled in admirably at the starting role with a double-double tally of 19 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks (Watch Zeller’s highlights below).
Shutting Down Schroder
Lin hit a perfect 8/8 from the free throw line after drawing plenty of fouls. He penetrated the Hawks defense with his trademark crossovers and shut down fellow back-up PG Dennis Schroder all through the game. In fact, the crowd gave Lin a thunderous ovation when he blocked Schroder’s attempt at a layup early in the first quarter. Lin held Schroder to 3/13 from the field and just 6 points.
After the win, Lin admitted that his team desperately needed to stop the losing streak.
It was a blowout victory for Hornets, who led the Hawks by as many as 35 points at one stage. For the Hawks, Paul Millsap top-scored with 20 points. Atlanta shot a paltry 37 percent from the field (30 of 81) and made only 7 out of 25 shots from deep. It was a forgettable night for a team that won the top seed in the Eastern Conference last season.
The Hornets asserted a nine-point lead at halftime, before stretching the lead 22 points in the third quarter. Charlotte stamped their authority on the game with a 21-8 run to open the final quarter.
