Jeremy Lin has represented three different teams in as many seasons. But his stint with Charlotte Hornets has a sense of permanency in it. As Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers continue to run wild over the NFL, Lin voiced his support for his “home club” with an unapologetic, passionate tweet Sunday.
Newton, the frontrunner to win NFL MVP, has a new fan. As the Panthers romped to a 12-0 record with a 41-38 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Lin tweeted during the game. “CAM!! #unashamedbandwagonfan #iliveincharlottenow #sorryimnotsorry.” Lin revealed that he is “unashamed” about being a bandwagon Panthers fan since he “lives in Charlotte now.”
Many of Lin’s Twitter followers went back-and-forth with the point guard on his newfound love for the Panthers. In fact, many of the diehard Panthers fans welcomed Lin as a new member in burgeoning fanbase. One of Lin’s fans wrote: “@JLin7 Nothing to be ashamed of! I (probably) started off as a bandwagon fan of yours but now I’m a fan for life. #fanofgreatcharacter.”
Jeremy Lin, now perceived as a journeyman in the NBA, has made a habit of supporting teams that play out of his prevailing NBA city. Last year, Lin threw the ceremonial first pitch during a Los Angeles Dodgers game. During Lin’s one-year sting with the Lakers, he was an active supporter of the Dodgers and Kings.
With Stephen Curry showing his unwavering support for the Panthers, Jeremy Lin joins the list of NBA stars wanting to see Panthers create history in February. The 12-0 Panthers stand a chance to become the first team in NFL history to finish with a perfect 16-0 record.
