Jennifer Lopez wore a custom 20-foot long cape designed by Michael Cinco that took him more than six months. She looks positively stunning.
The sprawling cape of Jennifer Lopez was hand-painted to look like stained glass church windows, inspired by Saint Chapelle of Paris. It was also embellished with 10,000 Swarovski crystals, which glistened throughout Lopez’s performance on “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday. Brilliant, isn’t it? It’s surprising considering Michael Cinco is.
If you are wondering who Michael Cinco is, read on!
Michael Cinco, a Pinoy designer has already dressed the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Kylie Minogue, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Beyoncé and Rihanna.
His celebrity clientele is Huge
He also became the first fashion designer from Philippines to showcase at the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week earlier in July. The very unassuming Cinco has fans in Sofia Vergara, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown, Fergie, Paris Hilton, Dita Von Teese, Mischa Bartonand various others.
The Pinoy designer loves to dress celebrities from his country like Anne Curtis, Marian Rivera-Dantes, Kathryn Bernardo, Liza Soberano, Ruffa Gutierrez and Bea Alonzo, who are his regular clients. Cinco revealed the fact that he has never met any of the celebs he dressed, due to his shy nature. He said if he would get a chance to dress Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte, it would definitely be a “bullet-proof couture barong.”
He’s still very humble
However, the 44-year-old Dubai-based designer has his feet firmly on the ground and his head on his shoulders. Cinco became the first designer from Philippines to present his collection at the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week’s “Couturissimo,” held last July 3. In Dubai the designer has his eponymous couture house called, Michael Cinco Haute Couture that was established in 2003.
In an interview with Inquirer, he recounted that he once turned down the offer to dress Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum for “Jupiter Ascending” because he was too shy to meet them. But, Cinco now has a fragrance to his credit — Impalpable Dream. He won the ‘Breakthrough Designer’ award from the WGSN Global Fashion Awards in November, 2011 and was also conferred the title ‘Asian Couturier Extraordinaire’ by the Asian Couture Federation in 2013.
He worked his way up steadily
Born in Catbalogan City, Samar, Philippines, he graduated from the University of Philippines Diliman in Fine Arts. From there, Cinco went on to study at SLIMS fashion and arts school, and after this he pursued a short course in fashion and pattern making at Central Saint Martin’s in London. The designer was featured in the America’s Next Top Model, and also launched the Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012.
His designs are fresh
Cinco is known for his fabulous couture gowns. “His innate creativity and masterful techniques have catapulted him to the front ranks of fashion. He has cultivated a dedicated following for the luxe and intricacy of his designs, with their fresh, elegant and detailed juxtapositions of fabric and Swarovski crystals,” according to his official website.
He’s an inspiration
According to Cinco, a person should always be herself/himself, wear something that makes him/her feel confident and never to commit the fashion blunder of wearing dresses that are “two sizes smaller” than his/her body. Michael Cinco added that everyone should have their individual style. He said that showcasing at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week was always his dream, which was realized.
Finally, he gave a piece of advice for aspiring designers: “Create clothes that people will wear. If you want to create art on clothes, make sure they will sell. Be humble and never give up. Believe that anything in this world is possible. Believe in your dreams and if you have faith and confidence in God, all of your impalpable dreams will come true.”
