Jada Pinkett Smith Plans To Boycott Oscars 2016 For Unjust Nominations
Jada Pinkett Smith was disappointed for the failure of the Academy to recognize her husband, Will Smith, in his outstanding acting performance in “Concussion” for Oscars 2016. Because of her disappointment, the actress revealed last Sunday that she will be boycotting the event.Advertisement
Fifty years ago, Black Panther’s Eldridge Cleaver was recognized by the Academy, people who are responsible for handing Academy Awards, as too mainstream, radical or dangerous, according to reports. At present, Jada Pinkett Smith also relayed the same disappointment due to the unjust declaration of Oscars 2016 nominees in which her husband did not land a spot.
According to Jada, Will delivered an outstanding performance in his recent film “Concussion” which she thinks should not have been overseen by the Academy. She stated, “Maybe it’s time we pull back our resources and we put them back into our communities, and we make programs for ourselves that acknowledge us in ways that we see fit, that are just as good as the so-called mainstream.”
She added, “We can no longer beg for the love, acknowledgement or respect of any group.” After her thoughts were revealed, she then declared that she is boycotting the upcoming Oscars 2016, also labeled the 88th Academy Awards.
She also indicated that she was disappointed by the Academy’s lack of diversity in Oscar nominations. She stated, “Begging of acknowledgement or even asking [to be nominated] diminishes dignity. It diminishes [the] power and we are a dignified people and we are powerful. And let’s not forget it. So let’s let the Academy do them with all grace and love and let’s do us differently.”
The host for Oscars 2016, Chris Rock, was also referred to by Jada. She said, “Chris, I will not be at the Academy Awards and I won’t be watching but I can’t think of a better man to do the job at hand this year than you my friend. Good luck.”
Jada also took to Twitter and relayed her frustration. Her tweet indicated, “Should people of color refrain from participating all together?” The actress had 900,000 followers on her account.
In fact, Jada Pinkett Smith also relayed that her husband, Will Smith, who took part in “Concussion,” along with DJ Jazzy Jeff, will not be attending the Oscars 2016 event.
