Danny Heinrich has confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Jacob Wetterling.

The admission of the crime came in a federal courtroom where Jacob’s parents were present.

On October 22, 1989, Jacob was kidnapped near his home in St. Joseph, Minnesota. He, his brother Trevor, and friend Aaron, were riding their bikes when they were stopped by a man wearing a mask. The masked man kidnapped Jacob and ordered his brother and friend to run to a nearby area and not look back.

Wearing a mask and carrying a .38 revolver, he approached the boys and ordered them into a ditch. He then told the boy’s brother and friend to run or else they would be shot. Heinrich handcuffed Jacob and forced him into the passenger seat of the car.

Heinrich drove the boy to a gravel pit. He forced Jacob to take his clothes off and forced the boy perform a sexual act on him. During his return, Heinrich saw a police cruiser on a nearby road. Afraid that he might get caught, he put two rounds inside his weapon and shot the boy.

Heinrich left the scene and returned a couple of hours later. He dragged the body of Jacob and buried it around 100 yards away.
