Apple TV users here comes good news for you. Web links and iTunes web previews have started rolling out for Apple TV apps. The roll out was first noticed by Jeff Scott, a developer whose app has been indexed. This is something developers should be happy about as they can now add a link to their apps from social media accounts as well as the websites.
As the roll out happened without any official announcement, the iTunes web previews, and web links were surprising. And this reflects in Jeff Scott’s tweet. In his tweet, he wrote, “Hey, look at that, Apple TV apps now showing up in web preview pages. When did that start? The replies to the tweet clearly showed how happy and surprised Apple TV users are with the launch of iTunes web previews and web links.
The iTunes web previews and web links are currently working only on desktops and not mobile. Giving away more information, MacStories in its post wrote, “iTunes web previews for tvOS apps don’t have any Download buttons to buy or download the apps from a desktop computer, and the links don’t work on iOS yet – they redirect to the iOS App Store, bringing up an error.” The report also said that according to their tests, “links to Apple TV-only apps showed a web preview with Apple TV screenshots in the browser; Universal iOS apps with tvOS support didn’t show any Apple TV information in the current iTunes web previews.”
How many apps can now be viewed with iTunes Web Previews is still not known. It is possible that Apple is still testing the feature and hence there was no official announcement. Want to check iTunes web previews yourself? Click here and here.
