“Iron Man 4” is now speculated to be in the works as Robert Downey Jr. hinted his return as the main character while Mel Gibson is being touted as the best director for it. Reports also hinted that there will be no room for a female villain as they are speculated not to give sales for toy companies, unless of course, directors start being brave about it.
Robert Downey Jr., has already hinted that he will return as the Marvel superhero for “Iron Man” 4, following the success of his first three Iron Man movies since 2008.
“I don’t know how long I’ll do it for,” he told, as reported by The Daily Star. “I’ll keep playing Iron Man for a couple more years, I guess.”
Mel Gibson meanwhile may replace Shane Black as its director despite the success of “Iron Man” 3.
In an interview with Uproxx, Shane Black does not have any bad blood with Mel Gibson’s role on directing Iron Man 4, adding that it is Robert Downey who wanted him to direct.
“Mel’s a great guy and I understand his new directing project is actually quite interesting,” he said.
However, he added that he would love to work with Robert Downey, Jr. again in future projects.
“Yeah, one of these days, maybe Downey will do another one,” he said. “I’d love to work with Robert again.”
Shane Black also clarified rumors about ditching having female villains in Iron Man movies. He related that despite having an early draft for “Iron Man” 3 with a female villain in it, they had to scrap the idea off because it won’t sell as toys, The Guardian said in a report.
“We had finished the script and we were given a no-holds-barred memo saying that cannot stand and we’ve changed our minds because, after consulting, we’ve decided that toy won’t sell as well if it’s a female,” he said.
If Mel Gibson does end up directing “Iron Man 4,” it will be worth thinking of having a female super villain. People did not take it kindly that toy companies will imply “women don’t exist,” so having a female supervillain will be a great twist and a movie crowd drawer.
