Earlier, rumors of Apple iPhone 8 suggested its design to be similar to that of iPhone 4. The 2017 flagship smartphone will supposedly take on a glass design. However, new rumors stated by Allen Horng, Chief Executive of Carter Technology, said that only one variant would fashion the glass design.
The recent confirmation by Carter Technology shatters previous rumors of iPhone 8 featuring an all-glass design for the entire variant. Moreover, this does not mean it is the end of metal frames. The company also confirmed that Apple will be featuring metal frames for the edges of the phone.
“As far as I know, only one [iPhone] model will adopt glass casing next year,” Horng said after an annual shareholder meeting on Thursday, as quoted by the Nikkei Asian Review. “I don’t think this move will have an impact on Catcher’s revenue as glass casing still needs a durable metal frame which requires advanced processing technology and would not be cheaper than the current model.”
The glass design variant would obviously be available for the high-end model if rumors are true. Adding to that, other rumors suggesting edge-to-edge display fashioning itself with new OLED could be available only for the high-end variant.
This also confirms that Apple’s iPhone 8 would go through a full design restructure due to its new technologies. A recent image render published by GSM Arena shows the iPhone 7 similar to iPhone 6. All the information adds up, increasing the credibility of recent reports.
