Joblo reported that a new featurette from the movie has been released. The video shows the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where, according to director Roland Emmerich, humanity will make its final showdown.
“Independence Day: Resurgence” features the return of Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, and Vivica A. Fox from the first film. They will be joined by Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher and take part humanity’s fight for survival.
After using recovered alien technology, the nations of the Earth undertook a massive defense program to protect the planet from the inevitable return of the aliens. But nothing can prepare them for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring back the planet from the brink of extinction.
Coming Soon.net has been given a first look at the space tug used by Liam Hemsworth’s character Jake Morrison in the film. Morrison, whose parents were killed in the first attack, grew up in an orphanage and has joined the military to become one of the best fighter pilots. Liam Hemsworth watched the first film on VHS when he was only six years old.
The filming began on April 20, 2015, and ended on August 22 the same year. Additional scenes were filmed early this year in Los Angeles as well as in London, Dubai, and Singapore.
Will Smith’s return was apparently discussed but was later due to 20th Century Fox refusing to provide Smith with the $50 million dollar salary for the back-to-back sequels. Will Smith or not, ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ is the sequel everyone waited two decades to see.
