Australian rapper and model Iggy Azalea finally gave the reason why her 2015 tour was cancelled. She had a psychotic breakdown.Advertisement
Iggy, whose real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, spoke with Schön! Magazine and shared that she was too tired and stressed to successfully carry out her concert tour last year. “I had to have a psychotic breakdown last year,” she said.
By psyhotic breakdown, she meant she had too much on her plate, mentally and emotionally. The media had a huge role behind this breakdown, she said. “Last year, I felt like I was completely not in control of the media’s narrative of me,” the “Pretty Girls” singer said.
Her image last year was not portrayed positively, and it affected her well-being. “It made me feel very out of control of my own life or my ability to have my own recognition of who I was. You don’t want another person to write your narrative and making you the bad person,” she said.
Fortunately, she snapped out of it. “Then I became fully aware of that, you know what, you can’t control it and I think I accepted that and moved on living my life,” she shared.
Last year, when she finally decided to cancel her tour, the reason she gave Seventeen magazine was that she needed a break because she had been working continuously for so long. “I’ve been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day. I’m not in a bad place. I think sometimes when you say you need a mental break, people are like, ‘A mental break? Be sure you don’t have a breakdown because you’re sad.’ No, not necessarily. It’s very emotionally draining to be on all the time and going all the time, planning all the time. It’s a lot, and it’s tough,” she said.
This year, she’s ready to reclaim her music career. At the same time, she has a wedding with fiancé Nick Young to finish planning. Year 2016 is definitely looking up for her.
