HTC has its eyes set on April 12 for the release of a new flagship – the HTC 10. The date is official and teasers are posted plenty online. But amidst the reports, there’s one particular rumor hinting at a mid-range HTC Desire smartphone on the same day.

Right now, there is no confirmed report stating the release of HTC Desire, but popular leakster, Llab TooFeR, who boasts a good track record of making right predictions, claim that HTC will be launching another phone with the HTC 10. The media prefers to call it the “mystery” handset, although several reports call it the A56, a member of the Desire line.

The rumor mill is running amok with more speculations whether the “mystery” device will be an entry-level or a high-end phone. While the guess is that it will be a mid-range device, we cannot possibly know until it releases.

The HTC 10, which will release on the same date, is an expensive phone and is powered by Snapdragon 820. The Desire, on the other hand, is expected to be a slightly cheaper variant, with Qualcomm snapdragon 652 SoC, reports PhoneArena.

Android Headlines further notes that the device in question will be available in both single SIM and dual SIM. No more details have been revealed, but it can be pretty much expected that the handset will be targeted at the prepaid market for the most part.

Following the latest release trends of the Taiwanese company, HTC aims at expanding its horizons beyond the smartphone business. Its latest venture, the Vive VR headset, which is slated for release this week is already available for ore-order.

With the company struggling to revive its declining smartphone business, it has its hopes pinned on the VR headsets. Only time will say if the Taiwan-based tech firm will recuperate its lost finances from the upcoming smartphones and VR sales.
