In 2008, Hillary Clinton’s campaign for president gave birth to the theory that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.

The argument was laid down by Donald Trump’s campaign manager in an interview that aired on Sunday. The report came two days after Trump himself accepted that President Obama was born in the United States.

“This started with Hillary Clinton’s campaign, number one,” Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s campaign manager, said during an interview with CBS’ Face the Nation.

“Number two, it was Donald Trump who put the issue to rest when he got President Obama to release his birth certificate years later and number three, he said President Obama was born in this country period and let’s move on to creating jobs, defeating radical Islam, rebuilding our inner cities.”

It has been two days since GOP nominee Donald Trump conceded at a news conference, saying President Obama is an American citizen. However, it was during the 2012 presidential campaign when Trump acted as one of the most high-profile figures who suggested Obama was not born in the United States.

If the allegations were true, it would have made Obama ineligible to become president of the United States. After the election, Trump continued to question Obama’s birthplace and other facets of his life.

The Trump campaign’s official website said, “Hillary Clinton’s campaign first raised this issue to smear then-candidate Barack Obama in her very nasty, failed 2008 campaign for President. This type of vicious and conniving behavior is straight from the Clinton Playbook. As usual, however, Hillary Clinton was too weak to get an answer.”

During April 2008 in a Democratic presidential primary, an anonymous email was distributed by supporters of Hillary Clinton, who was then Obama’s rival for the party’s nomination. An accusation was blurted out into national spotlight: allegedly, Obama was not born in Hawaii.

The email said that Obama’s mother was living in Kenya with his Arab-African father during her pregnancy. It also said that when she was pregnant, Obama’s mother was not permitted to travel by plane. That is why, the email explained, Obama was born in Kenya, and his mother took him to Hawaii to register his birth, as reported by Telegraph.
