It was alleged that Google performed technical manipulations when negative terms about Hillary Clinton were typed on its search bar.

Google, it seems, stopped providing suggestions when one types a negative search term related to the former First Lady. However, Bing and Yahoo regularly show a set of negative suggestions in response to the same keywords.

According to Sputnik News, Bing and Yahoo apparently showed what people were really searching for, while Google has been showing something else. The publication reported that Google is not suggesting negative terms for Hillary Clinton, even when those keywords are high on Trends. There are times Google suggested extremely positive terms for the former Secretary of State.

Robert Epstein, a research psychologist, described how he conducted a fresh study and reviewed evidence that Google’s search suggestions are biased in favor of Democratic presidential nominees. He explained that favored search suggestions might have the capability to shift as many as 3 million votes in the upcoming presidential elections.

In a viral video narrated by Matt Lieberman and published by Sourcefed, it was explained in detail how Google’s “auto-complete” suggestions are manipulated to provide only positive-sounding terms. However, negative-sounding suggestions for Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are absolutely present in the results.

“The intention is clear,” said Lieberman. “Google is burying potential searches for terms that could have hurt Hillary Clinton in the primary elections over the past several months by manipulating recommendations on their site.”

It was earlier reported by Morning News USA that Google had manipulated its algorithm in case of negative search terms related to Clinton’s health and the alleged murder list, which includes Seth Rich and Shawn Lucas.

  • As an internet marketer and web developer I find this exploitation of the Google autocomplete for suggested searches extremely impressive but also scary. What is to stop anyone who operates a large network of computers (or anyone who can afford to hire someone who operates a large network) from creating a bot to repeatedly search these things with spoofed user agents to trick Google into thinking these things are actually being searched by real people? Makes me wonder what other implications something like this could have outside of changing public opinion (corporate or govt. propaganda, etc). For business related search engine marketing purposes that could be huge.
