Here’s How Emma Watson Celebrated International Women’s Day

On Tuesday, the British actress, model, and activist Emma Watson, showed her continued commitment to female empowerment. Watson, who is famous as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, joined New York City’s First Lady Chirlane McCray to make the Empire State Building pink in celebration of International Women’s Day.


The actress, who is also the Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women, tweeted a picture with McCray as they stand at the observation deck of the famed structure. “Look outside your windows at dusk! @Chirlane and I just turned the Empire State Building PINK!,” her caption of the photo reads.

The First Lady of New York replied to Watson’s Twitter post, “Dear @emwatson, on behalf of New York City, THANK YOU for inspiring feminists here & around the globe. #HeForShe”

As reported by Hello Magazine, the Harry Potter actress started her day by having a small talk with the Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker on behalf of HeforShe. The organization encourages men to collaborate with the movement for gender equality. Watson’s group is providing funds for HeforShe Arts Week, in tandem with U.N. Women (the United Nations entity working for the empowerment of women).

Whitaker tweeted that he had a wonderful time chatting with Watson regarding gender equality. Forest also encourage everyone to take part in Watson’s movement.

According to CBS News there were other famous personalities who also celebrated the International Women’s Day. Some of the big shots include Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Patricia Arquette, Kerry Washington and Ariana Grande.

The United States Senator from Vermont, Sanders, posted online, “Women must have full control over their reproductive health in order to have full control over their lives. #InternationalWomensDay.”

And the singer and actress Ariana tweeted, “happy international women’s day! ….. I mean week……. I mean month…… I mean year……. I mean life…..”
