‘Gram’, LG’s First Laptop Series, To Rival Apple Macbook Air
With a new Android tablet, the “G Pad X 10.1”, and a new super phone in the ranks, LG is set to introduce its first laptop in the United States.
Being ultra-thin and light, LG has aptly named the laptop line “Gram”. The laptop comes in 13 inches and 14 inches, both of which weigh less than a kilogram. As reported by ZDNet, each version of the laptop weighs 980 grams (2.16 pounds). The 13-inch Apple‘s MacBook Air, on the other hand, reaches 2.96 pounds. However, the latest Macbook, with a 12-inch display, weighs 2.03 pounds.
The 14-inch Gram, priced at $1,399.99, incorporates a fifth-generation Intel Core i7 processor, a 256GB SSD flash drive and 8GB of RAM; while the 13-inch MacBook Pro, costing $100 less, provides half the hard drive space and a slower Core i5 processor, but an enhanced screen resolution and an improved force touch trackpad. Appearance-wise – minimalist exterior and island style keyboard – the LG Gram series and MacBook are quite similar.
According to CNET, the Gram series is very portable, owing to the Core i7 processor. The chassis is made of carbon magnesium and lithium magnesium alloys, which offers a lot of flex. The 13-inch model of the Gram series comes in white, and the 14-inch configuration comes in champagne gold colored.
One disadvantage, however, in the Gram series is its battery life. The two versions of the laptop series give 7.5 hours of use, but the battery is just a 35 Wh model. This gives is a huge setback over other Ultrabooks.
The LG Gram laptops are available at Microsoft stores and on Amazon.
