Google Hangouts Gets New Website, Won’t Depend On Gmail Anymore
It’s time to stop depending on Gmail for Google Hangouts. Google has created a new website solely for Hangouts that will remove its dependency of Google+ and Gmail.
The new website, hangouts.google.com, has big buttons for video calls, phone calls and messages. All your contacts will be shown on the left-hand side once you log in to your account. You can simply choose a contact from the list and the chat window will open on the right.
Just as all other Google products including Gmail, the other apps can be accessed from the top right corner. The Google Hangouts menu gives you an option to download the app for Chrome, iOS, and Android.
Google has been trying for the last few months to separate the social media apps of Google. The first move was done for Google Photos and this time Google has done it for Hangouts. With a sole identity on the web, the app will be more convenient to use.
A few months ago, Facebook launched a standalone Messenger app for the web and this was the turn for Google to do so. Facebook thought it would be helpful for people to have desktop conversations.
The amount of attention Hangouts is getting from the tech company surely suggests that it is depending on the free messaging and calling app a lot. Hangouts getting a sole website amplifies the fact even more. It would be fun to note how people accept the new change in the messaging domain.
