What's This?

If you think that flip phones are dead, then you’re wrong! Another tech company has just proved to the world that, contrary to belief, the once loved type of phone is still in the market. This latest phone might prove to be some sort of relief to some who are sort of tired of the same sleek smartphones that are common these days. What are we talking about you might ask? We’re talking about the new Gionee W909 phone.

Gionee’s latest release, according to Digital Trends, was first revealed through China’s version of the Federal Communications Commission which is called TENAA. It features two 4.2-inch IPS displays on the front and back of the phone, both of which has a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution.

It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop along with Gionee’s custom Amigo 3.2 user interface and a Mali-T860 MP2 GPU. It runs on an octa core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with a RAM of 4GB and an internal storage of 64GB which is expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card.

Android Headlines adds that Gionee W909 sports a 16 megapixel rear shooter above its fingerprint sensor and a 5 megapixel front shooter for selfies. It has a leather back and a Type-C USB port on the bottom.

The dual-SIM enabled device has a body dimension of 124.1 x 62.8 x 16.5mm and weighs 207 grams. It accepts regular and microSIM connectivity options and also supports 3G, 4G, Bluetooth, FM, GPS and WiFi. It also has sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope and proximity sensor reports Gadgets 360.

Gionee W909 is powered by a 2530 mAh non removable Lithium ion battery and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer adds Tech2. Unfortunately for some, the phone has a regular numpad. It is available in two color variants which are Rose Gold and Pink.

It is expected to go on sale for 4,000 CNY or about $615 USD. So far, it is available in China and no other info states whether it will come to the US or in other countries as well. Some reports say that this latest clamshell phone might just put Samsung’s flip phone, the SM-W2016 device to shame. What do you think? We leave that up to your judgement.
