George R. R. Martin Hints At Completion Date For The Winds Of Winter
The latest book in the widely acclaimed fantasy series, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” may be finished this year, author George R. R. Martin has hinted.
“The Winds of Winter (TWoW)” is the sixth and the penultimate book in the series. It is a sequel to “A Dance with Dragons,” published in 2011.
It is certainly delightful news for all fans especially after the publisher had earlier said no plans had been made for publication in 2015.
However, it isn’t the first time an anticipated release date of a book of the bestselling series has been subjected to change. Although “A Dance with Dragons” was originally planned to be finished in 2006, it was ultimately released after several postponements in 2011.
Business Insider reported that because of these irregularities when it came to release dates of his books in the past, he will not “play games with news about the books” anymore.
As a result of his preoccupation with TWoW, Martin will not be attending upcoming conventions unless he is able to finish TWoW. The Wrap quoted Martin, saying, “Should I complete and deliver ‘Winds of Winter’ before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind.”
In addition, he will also be missing out on the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga, New York.
Martin had written on his blog, “I have too much to do. Too many things on my plate. Son of Kong foremost amongst them.” Son of Kong is a nickname for TWoW.
While there is much hype about the completion and the subsequent release of TWoW (after which Martin will be writing the finale, “A Dream of Spring,” of the epic fantasy series), the fifth season of “The Game of Thrones,” which commences in April, has almost caught up with “A Dance of Dragons.”
