‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7: Did Daenerys Targaryen Forget Euron Greyjoy?
Game of Thrones must know either the feeling of someone beating you to the punch or someone stealing your girl/boy. If so they should be able to sympathize with Euron Greyjoy, King of the Iron Islands.Advertisement
King Greyjoy took Pyke and the Iron Islands by storm, literally. Returning from his many years of wandering the world’s oceans he was greeted by his brother whom he mercilessly threw over the bridge.
Euron Greyjoy: King Of Salt And Rock
In the following power vacuum, Balon Greyjoy’s last surviving children Yara and Theon claim the Salt Throne. As the Iron born was about to declare Yara Greyjoy as King, their uncle arrived.
After insults were thrown, presumably Ironborn formalities in Game of Thrones, Euron Greyjoy added a twist to Yara’s grand plan. Instead of just building the largest fleet in the world has ever seen, he plans to present it to the Mother of Dragons.
In his years of wandering, he must have stopped over at Mereen and learned that Daenerys Targaryen is building her army. As the Narrow Sea separates Essos from Westeros, Euron saw an opportunity; either that or his madness has taken hold of him.
He proposes to build 1000 ships and present it to Daenerys as well as an offer of marriage. The Ironborn were pleased with the idea as it would bring back their golden age lost in the days of Harren the Black.
He was crowned King of Salt and Rock and his niece and nephew fled in fear of death, taking the best ships of their fleet. Undeterred, he ordered every Ironborn to make him 1000 ships.
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7: Euron Greyjoy Beaten To The Punch
Unbeknownst to him, his nephew and niece took his plan and offered their 100 ships to the Mother of Dragons. After agreeing to never again reave and rape, Daenerys Targaryen promised independence for the Iron Islands and aligned herself with the Greyjoy siblings.
This leaves Euron Greyjoy with 1000 ships and no Daenerys. With his niece and nephew gaining favor with House Targaryen, his rule of the Iron Islands is numbered.
Will he put up a fight once the Targaryen Fleet comes knocking at the doors of Pyke?
