What's This?

Game of Thrones season 6 truly had a rough ride, which is probably why no video has ever been released by HBO. In fact, showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff said that the original pilot for the series was a “piece of sh–.”

According to Vanity Fair, Weiss, and Benioff had to do several re-shoots and re-castings; they also had to recreate an episode from thin air because the original just wouldn’t do.

During an interview, Weiss revealed that two of the industry’s best showrunners, John August and Craig Mazin, screenwriters of “Big Fish” and “The Hangover” sequels respectively, saw the original footage and did not like it. In fact, Mazin, who was a good friend of the Game of Thrones showrunners, automatically realized that the pilot was not fitting for the series.

Weiss said, “Watching them watch that original pilot was one of the most painful experiences of my life. As soon as it finished, Craig [Mazin] said, ‘You guys have a massive problem.’” Benioff, on the other hand, said, “None of (our friends) realized that Jaime and Cersei were brother and sister, which is a major, major plot point that we had somehow failed to establish.”

He added, “I was taking notes and I had this yellow legal pad, and I just remembered writing in all caps, ‘MASSIVE PROBLEM,’ and it’s all I could think about the rest of the night. Craig didn’t really have any great ideas except that he said ‘change everything.’”

In other news, Independent reports that after their friends viewed the original pilot, they automatically made major changes to production. In fact, it was reported that 90% of it was re-made.

During an interview, Mazin revealed, “I very specifically remember walking out and I said, ‘That is the biggest rescue in Hollywood history’. It wasn’t just that they had saved something bad and turned it really good. You had saved a complete piece of s**t and turned it into something brilliant. That never happens!”

Despite the negative feedback the two showrunners received for Game of Thrones, the actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen, Emilia Clarke, did state that the upcoming season will be “epic.”
