‘Game Of Thrones’ ‘Batte Of The Bastards’ Analysis: Sansa Stark Regrets Help From Littlefinger?
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 episode has ended with the Stark banners once again flying in the walls of Winterfell. But at what cost?Advertisement
The latest “Game of Thrones” Season 6 saw Jon Snow and Sansa Stark triumphed over the Boltons. However, it would not have been possible without the arrival of the Knights of the Vale, which begs the question, what does Littlefinger expect in return? Will Sansa regret asking for help?
Everyone saw a desperate Sansa Stark write a letter to Littlefinger back in episode 7. Despite pleading with Jon to get more men, her half brother was adamant that they should attack the forces with what they currently have.
While not a strategist, she does know what overwhelming numbers can into a battlefield witnessing it firsthand in when Ramsay Bolton crushed Stannis Baratheon’s army in “Game of Thrones” season 5. With their forces barely amounting to half what the Boltons can field she sends a letter to Lord Baelish who was still encamped in Moat Cailin with the Knights of the Vale.
In classic Tolkien fashion, the mounted forces of House Arryn arrive just as the Stark army was about to be annihilated by the Boltons. Their heavy infantry proving to be no match for the heavily armored cavalry of the Vale.
With the Bolton army crushed and Ramsay Bolton being reduced to dog food, the Starks are once again the rulers of the north, at least as far as the northerners are concerned. While the Starks are dealing with the aftermath of the “Battle of the Bastards,” what is going on through Littlefinger’s mind?
A closer look at Sansa’s letter reveals she promised to have him properly rewarded should he come. Given that Littlefinger is, as Varys puts it, an ambitious man with no morals, what could he want in return?
For starters, he could request for Sansa to be his wife, dispatch the current Lord of the Vale and found a new great house. He could also demand the north to fight at his side should he stake his claim on the Iron Throne.
At the very least, he could arrange an alliance with House Stark similar as both houses are now regarded as traitors by the crown for rebelling against the Warden of the North. Whatever the case, Littlefinger’s help will come with strings attached.
Will Sansa Stark regret her decision later on?
