The release of Game of Thrones season 6 is fast approaching this year and these spoilers and theories have been enticing the fans by storm. From Kit Harington hinting that Jon Snow is in fact ‘done’, Tyrion being a Targaryen, The Hound returning, and Catelyn Stark appearing in the latest season, season six will surely be a ride that’s one to look out for.
Many reports surfaced that Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, will come back in Game of Thrones season 6. However, hints from the actor himself indicated that those reports may be false.
As reported by Inquisitr, Harington partook in an interview with Entertainment Weekly when season five of the series wrapped up. During the said interview, he was asked about his character and what would become of him in seasons to come. Contrary to his appearance in Germany while the production and cast were filming for season six, he stated, “[Jon Snow] is dead, he is done.” What makes of Harington’s sightings during filming indicated then?
Other spoilers revolved around possibilities surrounding several facts that may indicate that two of the most crucial characters in the series may be parts of unexpected families.
For one, it was reported that Tyrion, played by actor Peter Dinklage, may be revealed to be a Targaryen after all. Looking back on previous seasons, it was indicated that the Mad King Aerys II Targaryen once slept with Joanna Lannister. This fact suggested that Tyrion may not be Tywin Lannister’s son but that of Aerys. Therefore, Tyrion may be a part of the Targaryen clan. This information may also indicate that he would be revealed as one of the three heads of the dragon in season six.
Another theory suggested that Sandor “The Hound” Clegane may be revived in season six. Apart from the actor portraying the role sighted while filming was going on, it was indicated in previous season that he ‘probably’ died when stabbed by Brienne.
However, the books failed to confirm that he, indeed, died. In fact, another theory suggested that Septon Meribald was the one to save “The Hound” from his demise.
Furthermore, it was also revealed that Ian McShane would appear in season six and that his mysterious character would bring an ‘unexpected’ character back. Provided that several reports suggested this could be Jon Snow, could it also possibly link to The Hound instead?
It was also hinted that Lady Stoneheart, also known as Lady Catelyn Stark, may be back in season six. This theory surfaced when it was rumored that a red wedding, like the marriage massacre that occurred and led to the death of Robb Stark and Lady Catelyn would commence. The said event was said to be the Lady Stoneheart’s opportunity to direct Jaime Lannister to get her to the event and avenge the fallen Robb Stark.
In other news, ET Online reported that these theories may remain as theories until the big reveal of season six. This is due to the fact that the novel-based series author, George R.R. Martin, still hasn’t completed the text yet. During an interview, Martin said, “You’re disappointed, and you’re not alone. For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, ‘I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER on or before the last day of 2015. But the book’s not done.” He added, “Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week. Yes, there’s a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters. But there’s also a lot still left to write.”
Unlike the previous seasons of Game of Thrones season 6 is the only television rendition of George R.R. Martin’s novel that does not have a published reference. However, this fact makes the latest season more intriguing as nobody can really ascertain what HBO has in store for the fans.
