‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Episode 8 Trailer Analysis: Cersei Lannister Vs. The Faith Militant
“Game of Thrones” episode 8 has released its trailer and it prominently features the face-off between the Cersei Lannister and the Faith Militant. This confrontation could possibly be the spark that will ignite the flames of civil war in the capital.Advertisement
Will she triumph over the Faith when the dust settles or will the High Sparrow hold King’s Landing in the palm of his hand?
The beginning of the 40-second released by HBO video shows Cersei Lannister, accompanied by Qyburn and Ser Robert Strong/ Ser Gregor Clegane, being confronted by Lancel Lannister and several other Faith Militants. Lancel warns his former lover that there will be violence unless she sends the monstrous Clegane away. She responds that she chooses violence.
What follows is what can be assumed as a one-sided melee where the militants were killed including Lancel himself. Ser Gregor’s Kingsguard armor was later shown to have dents as they enter the throne room possibly to report to King Tommen what they have done.
Whatever repercussions their actions will bring in “Game of Thrones” is still unclear but it will it will not bode well for the people of King’s Landing. With Cersei Lannister trusting no one except Qyburn and Gregor, everyone is fair game for her wrath.
Considering that the Faith Militant vastly outnumbers the Lannister forces in the capital, it is safe to assume that she will utilize some form of devastating weapon to even out the odds. One possibility is leftover wildfire from the Battle of the Blackwater as using it in on the heavily populated city will cause severe damage.
With her trial for Robert’s murder a foregone conclusion, confrontation with the High Sparrow is inevitable. The chaos her actions will bring could be setting the stage for other players to put their plans in motion especially Daenerys Targaryen’s invasion.
Will she decide to “burn them all?” or will she come to terms with the High Sparrow and the Faith Militant? Watch ‘Game of Thrones’ every Sunday to find out.
