Furor Over Malia Obama Interning For Lena Dunham
Rumor has it that first daughter, 17-year-old Malia Obama lands an internship for controversial Lena Dunham on equally controversial show, HBO’s “Girls.” Malia was spotted Thursday running some errands on the set of the show. Concerned individuals have expressed their strongest objection against this.
Malia, a fan of Lena Dunham
An unnamed source who has spoken with US Weekly confirmed that Malia is already interning for HBO’s sexually charged show, “Girls.”
“She’s a fan, and she mentioned that to Lena [Dunham] when she came to the White House. I’m not sure how long she’ll be interning for. It’s a bit of a trial thing for her. They’ve known each other and discussed for a while. Lena and her get along great,” the source told US Weekly.
Mali was first spotted by Page Six on the set of the show on Thursday. According to Page Six, Malia has been spending three hours on location in Brooklyn set. The show had been filming at the Auroa Ristorante on Grand Street. At this time, it was not clear whether Malia was just hanging out with the show’s staff, was working with the production or would appear in one of the episodes – until the confirmation from US Weekly.
Stop Malia from working with Dunham
As the rumor swirled around, concerned individuals were quick to object about Malia being exposed to the raunchy show and even raunchier Dunham.
People are reacting negatively as Dunham is known for her very sexual ideologies as “Girls” is known for its controversial take on sexual issues. In 2012, Emily Esfahani Smith described the show as “bad sex and the city.”
“With its unflinching (and often explicit) depiction of some of the most unerotic couplings you’ll ever see onscreen, HBO’s critically-acclaimed new comedy ‘Girls’ captures the sexual wasteland of the millenials’ hook up culture — the grim reality of ‘no strings attached’ sex between post-college guys, who have learned what they know about sex from online porn, and post-college girls, who have learned what they know about sex from Cosmopolitan magazine,” Smith wrote.
President and First lady confident of Malia’s upbringing
In a 2012 interview with People, Michelle Obama said that Malia is interested in filmmaking. “Just like her father, she is an avid reader, and she enjoys movies. But she’s a freshman, so she also knows she has years in college to explore her interest. Sasha, what she likes today will change in an hour. So she doesn’t even try and lay it out yet. I want them to be as open to possibilities as possible,” she said.
Asked about boys, President Barack Obama said they are confident that Malia and Sasha have great role model in their mother. “They’ve seen how Michelle and I interact-not only the love but also respect that I show to their mom. So I think they have pretty high expectations about how relationships should be, and that gives me some confidence about the future… the truth is they are smart, steady young women.
“And that’s the best protection,” Mrs Obama added.
