Day 4 updates from the Roland Garros are here.

The biggest upset the day witnessed was last year’s runner-up No 3 Simona Halep’s exit. Halep’s poor run in clay court continued as she bowed out against unseeded Mirjana Lucic-Baroni yet again. Baroni won in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.

Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori won their respective second round games. Federer defeated Marcel Granollers 6–2, 7–6, 6–3. Maria Sharapova blew Vitalia Diatchenko 6–3, 6–1. Nishikori too won convincingly against Thomaz Bellucci 7–5, 6–4, 6–4.

Last year’s semifinalist no 24 Ernests Gulbis couldn’t repeat his feat, losing 6–3, 3–6, 7–5, 6–3 to Nicolas Mahut, while no 32 Fernando Verdasco lost to Benjamin Becker 6–4, 0–6, 1–6, 7–5, 10–8.

No 28 Fabio Fognini looked clueless and lost 6–1, 6–3, 7–5 to Benoit Paire. Lucas Rosol knocked out 19 seed Roberto Bautista Agut 6–4, 6–2, 6–2.
