Frank Ocean is the singer, songwriter and rapper who released his first album “Channel Orange” and right after earned fame for his music. His follow-up album has been anticipated for years and fans seemed to grow tired and unbelieving that another album is indeed coming.
The Internet as reported by Time has revived fans’ hope when news that Frank Ocean’s second album will be released on June 3 surfaced.
Fans can only hope that this is true of course. They have been disappointed way too many times already.
It was announced a year ago that his album tentatively titled “Boys Don’t Cry” is already out. However, nothing reached the music stores.
PaperMag reported that this time many believed this news is true especially when Chance the Rapper referred to it as “amazing.” James Blake also described it as better than the previous one. In February, it was announced that there was a secret listening session where snippets of audio were uploaded but later taken down.
Why are there so many musically-inclined people who are so avid to get hold of his album? His first album was a hit. Frank Ocean created his niche in the music industry.
“Channel Orange” contained unconventional songs that tell stories about society. It is a combination of hip hop, R&B and soul. His song about an unrequitted love drew attention because of his earlier admission that his first love was a man.
The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and has 131,000 copies disposed in its first week alone. It became gold as certified by the Recording Industry Association of America.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, it has sold 621,000 copies by the third quarter of 2014.
In early 2013, he announced that he has started working on his second album. He mentioned the likes of Pharrell Williams, Tyler, the Creator and Danger Mouse. He alo revealed that his album has influences of The Beach Boys and The Beatles.
However, it did not materialize. No wonder this time, people are reluctant to believe fully that his album is dropping on June 3. Will it happen? Only Frank Ocean knows!
