Formula 1 News: Lewis Hamilton Insists To ‘Go For It’ When There’s Gap Following Spain Crash, Vettel Fastest In Barcelona Testing On First Day, & More
Lewis Hamilton insists to ‘go for it’ when there’s a gap following Spain crash. The recent Spanish grand prix has left current Constructors champion Mercedes Petronas AMG without any new points following a collision between its two drivers during the first lap of the race.
Nonetheless, reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton insisted, “When there’s a gap, you go for it!” According to him, he saw that teammate Nico Rosberg was not on the racing line, prompting to go to the right. The crash has since been ruled by stewards as a racing incident and decided not to penalize either Rosberg or Hamilton.
At the same time, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport head Toto Wolff is feeling the same way. In fact, he prefers not to blame one driver or the other.
Following the collision that took both of the team’s cars out of the race, Wolff explained, “Both Lewis and Nico are upset and we talked with them, looking at the pictures and the data, to determine exactly what happened. By letting the drivers race as we do, this kind of eventuality can happen but we won’t change our approach – we owe it to Formula One and the fans to let them race.”

Daniil Kvyat says he could have won with Red Bull, too. The recent race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was Kvyat’s first race back with Toro Rosso after he was moved back to his former team following his race mishap in Russia.
According to a report from Crash.net, the Russian believes he would had the “potential to win” with Red Bull, like what happened to Verstappen. who had just taken Kvyat’s former driving seat in the team. During the race, Kvyat managed to finish 10th and score a point.
