Ferrari continues to set the pace during the second day of the pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.

Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel continue to set the fastest lap Tuesday on the SF16-H as he manages to complete 126 laps and clock in a fastest lap time of 1:22.810 before lunch. This second day run also marks the first time that Vettel’s car is trying Pirelli’s new ultrasoft compound tyres. And even as drivers continued to take to the track in the afternoon, Vettel’s lap time remained on top.

Meanwhile, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was second fastest with a best lap of 1:23.525 after completing 112 laps. Meanwhile, Force India’s Sergio Perez follows closely aboard his Mercedes powered VJM09. He set a fastest lap time of 1:23.650 after completing 101 laps.

On the other hand, Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg was also out on the track. He recorded a fastest lap time of 1:24.867. It seems the Mercedes AMG Petronas team remains determined to makes as much mileage with their cars as possible. Toward the end of Tuesday’s testing, Rosberg had managed to do 172 laps. Similarly, Williams’ Valtteri Bottas also seemed to be looking to maximize mileage aboard the Mercedes powered FW38. He completed 134 laps on Tuesday and set a fastest lap time of 1:25.648.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso seems to be feeling optimistic about the chassis installed on his MP4-31. The two-time world champion even believes his team may have the best chassis out of all the cars in the Formula 1 grid this year. They will just need a bit more time. “I think the target to have the best chassis is reachable – is very possible – maybe by the European races,” Alonso explains.

The pre-season testing is also working out well for the McLaren Honda team. On Tuesday, Alonso managed to complete 119 laps aboard his MP4-31 and he set a fastest lap time of 1:26.082, well ahead of Renault’s Jolyon Palmer and Toro Rosso’s max Verstappen. This is a quite impressive performance for the team compared to last year when Alonso says, they only managed to do seven laps during the first day and 25 during the second.
