A member of the Royal Family, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, has finally come out, admitting that he is gay.
The news might have come as a surprise to many, especially that for so many years, he has always been pictured with his estranged wife Penny and their three daughters.
However, at the age of 53, the cousin of Queen Elizabeth has taken the courage to share with the world his real identity, along with a snap with the man he is currently with.
What took him so long then to divulge his real sexual preference? Was Penny aware of it even before they tied the knot? Was it the reason why she and Lord Ivar Mountbatten broke up?
In an interview with Daily Mail on Sunday, the royalty opened up about how it was keeping his being gay and how he is right now after the confession.
Fear used to be there.
“It was the generation into which I was born,” he told the publication when he invited them to his home at Bridwell Park. “When I was growing up, it was known as ‘the love that dare not speak its name,’ but what’s amazing now is how far we have all come in terms of acceptance.”
Penny and Prince Edward gave him the go signal.
If some might have been interested to know the reaction of the ex-wife of Lord Ivan Mountbatten following his admission, it appeared that it is already something that no longer need any digging.
He dished that Penny, their children and Prince Edward all supported him in his latest move.
He even noted that “Being a Mountbatten was never a problem.”
Penny was aware of the situation even before they got married.
The London-born English aristocrat said that he already informed the mother of his children that he is a bisexual prior to their wedding in 1994. The two divorced in 2011.
“Given my sexuality, I was quite surprised she married me in the first place,” Lord Ivar Mountbatten said. “It was brave. Perhaps she thought she could change me but in the end she realized she couldn’t.”
So, who is the lucky man he loves?
His name is James Coyle, an airline cabin services director, whom he met in March 2015 at the Verbier, a Swiss resort.
Going through the ancestry of Lord Ivan Mountbatten, Bridwell.co noted that he is a direct descendant of Queen Victoria.
