Fans were quick to notice that Hank, an octopus who helped main character Dory on her journey of finding her own family, ended up in a baby carriage of a possible lesbian couple in one scene.
A Twitter use even posted some screen grabs from the new Finding Dory trailer, showing the supposed lesbian couple, Telegraph UK said.
“That new #FindingDory trailer released this morning?” Matthew Gottula said. “I think that’s the first lesbian couple in a @DisneyPixar film.”
Though there has not been any confirmation if the couple is a lesbian, it can be observed that one of them has features of a girl but she was wearing men’s clothes.
Pixar’s opening its doors to introduce the LGBT community in their films may have started when they had famous host and openly lesbian star Ellen DeGeneres to voice out Dory’s character.
There has been a clamor to include the LGBT community in Disney movies which started in the hashtags #GiveElsaAGirlfriend as well as in Marvel’s Captain America movie with the campaign #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend.
A report from Identities.mic said that Frozen has already featured an LGBT in one of its scene when Oaken pointed to another man and his four children as his family.
Mic’s Matthew Rodriguez meanwhile noted that Disney and Pixar’s introduction of LGBT members in their characters is a step towards giving the kids the idea that they exist.
“While a short scene with a white lesbian couple isn’t a cinematic revolution, it’s a small step forward and a sign of Pixar’s and Disney’s willingness to show the kids (and adults!) who watch their films that LGBT people exist — in the real as well as the animated world,” he said.
