It is now time for the girl gang to play the con stars. A release date for Ocean’s Eight, starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna amongst others, has been set on June 8, 2018.
According to a report by the Mail Online, the filming of the Ocean’s Eight starts next month. Although the plot is still under the wraps, there are reports that the girl gang will carry out Ocean’s Eleven-like operation at the Met Gala.
Bullock was the first to join the cast and will reportedly play the ex-con sister of ex-con Danny Ocean. Bullock will lead her own team that will include Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, and Awkwafina.
Steven Soderbergh, the director of the Ocean’s Eleven is the executive producer with Gary Ross, who co-wrote the script, will take the director’s seat, the A.V. Club reported.
The 1960’s Ocean’s Eleven had Frank Sinatra in the title role with fellow Rat Pack members Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop making up rest of the cast. The movie was remade in 2001, with George Clooney as Danny Ocean and went on to reprise the role in Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007.
According to Ross, the upcoming Ocean’s Eight will be a continuation to the previous movies.
“You know, Steven Soderbergh (who directed the Clooney-trilogy) and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t,” he said. “I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t. This is very much an extension and a continuation. He’s a producer on the movie.”
Matt Damon, who was a part of the previous three movies, said they think that the female reboot is a great idea. “I think it’s going to be awesome,” he said. “They’re going to kick ass.”
