“Fear the Walking Dead” Season 2’s latest twist seems to be based on its comic book. Showrunner Dave Erickson however said that the similarities were just coincidence.
In its latest episode, fans were surprised to see that Madison has returned Connor’s brother Reed so she can get Travis and Alicia back. However, Reed, now a zombie, made chaos after Connor removed the sack from his head. This scene was notably similar to the comic book “The Walking Dead” where Negan decided to give back Holly, who was already a zombie then, to Alexandria. When Alexandra removed Holly’s sack, she bit Denise arm, causing chaos.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly if there is a direct homage of the series from the comic books, Dave Erickson said, “It’s just a similarity because I missed that issue.”
“None of my EP partners mentioned that, so it is a coincidence. I guess it’s tricky when you’ve written as many issues as Robert has, I guess it’s inevitable that there’s going to be moments when we echo something from the comic book, but it was not intentional, but if people want to take it as a homage, all the better.”
David Erickson also tackled how the latest episode of “Fear the Walking Dead” started out with a scene of Connor cooking this nice meal for Alicia, saying that it was “wonderful.”
“What we found out at the end of last week is that certain people are going to be allowed to go back to Connor’s base and one is Travis — for reasons we’re about to discover — and then the other is Alicia,” he said. “And Connor knows that Jack feels he has this bond and this relationship with Alicia and he wanted to bring her.”
He added that this scene was Connor’s way of getting to know Alica, as he shows him that they can be okay and normal, and that there is a place for Alicia in that world.
“He’s cooking her probably the first real meal that she’s had in quite some time. There’s a little bit of a seduction going on, but it isn’t sexual or romantic in nature.”
The “Fear the Walking Dead” showrunner also discussed more about the voices that Daniel hear in his head, and Strand’s decision to side with Madison.
