Facebook has redesigned its Notes feature with a new avatar, but surprisingly it looks more like Medium. The updated version of the social networking Notes feature is now available for all those who would like to write more than just a status.

As pointed out by Dave Winer, a blogging pioneer, the look is more like that of Medium which is the open blogging platform formed by former Twitter CEO Evan Williams after leaving the company.

Facebook Note is not new

The Notes feature of Facebook is not a new addition, though. It was there but was not used much. This allows users to post longer stories with cleaner interface and design. It allows the user to put large images compared to what they put in the status.

The Facebook Notes was announced in 2006. However, many don’t know about it at all and the remaining users don’t use it regularly.

The reason why Facebook Notes looks more like Medium may be that Facebook has recently hired the founder of Teehan & Lax. This is the same company that helped Medium with a lot of formatting.

Facebook recently made changes in its News Feed. The way the links are shown and sorted has also changed in recent times. Facebook is investing more on different types of content and thus this new change makes sense.

Facebook recently launched Instant Articles, a venture supported by New York Times and other major publications. With this Notes initiative, Facebook expects users to provide more attention on blogging. This way, the time invested on the social networking website will increase and can create more opportunities for the company.
