Facebook Office Just Opened in the Philippines
Facebook has been a huge part of Filipinos’ daily lives. This is why it makes sense to have a Facebook office in the Philippines.Advertisement
While Facebook is used in almost all parts of the world, it can be observed that in Asia, Filipinos are specially attached to the social meda. Ordinary Filipinos do not only use the social media to post pictures of themselves or check on their friends’ profile, but for families with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), this social media channel has been their means of communication.Fortunately, according to UPDATE, Dan Neary, Facebook Vice president for Asia Pacific, announced through his official Facebook account that the social networking website will open its first ever office in the Philippines.
Vice president Neary stated, “Over 49 million Filipinos uses Facebook every month to connect with their friends and loved ones – this is over 91% of the internet population.” Vice president Neary also said that Philippines is a highly engaged mobile-first country crowded with individuals who are creative, entrepreneurial and perceived by a strong sense of community.
Neary pointed out that, “Filipinos have been sharing the unique moments that matter on Facebook with their love ones, be it life milestones or a trending video.”
However, as stated by When In Manila, even though there was a public and formal statement that Facebook opened a local office in the Philippines, it is not clearly visible what its main role will be in the country. Some say it might be for marketing reasons. Neary also stated that, “Our team is already partnering closely with businesses – small and large – in the Philippines; and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to grow together with our partners there.”
That being said, media outlets like Manila Coconuts are speculating on how the Facebook office in the Philippines will look like. It has been said that Facebook offices around the globe have a lot of cool things. We have no cause to speculate that the Facebook office in the Philippines will not have the same.
