[Exclusive] Shane Ericks New Music Video: Everything To Know About Rising Star

Shane Ericks dropped her new music video on Thursday. The 19-year-old Filipino singer is based in South Carolina and is carving out a niche for herself in the world of singing thanks to her very supportive parents and family.

Morning News USA sat down for a chat with the teen singing sensation, just before the release of her new music video. Shane Ericks’ mellifluous and sonorous voice reminds one of Karen Carpenter, the fact that she is constantly compared to the icon.

The international performing artist is also known for bagging the Grand Champion Global Pinoy Singing Idol. Read the transcript of the exclusive interview with Ericks here:

How long have you been singing? When did you start?

“Gosh! I’ve been singing since I was very little, probably, as long as I can remember. I was singing in the church. Well, before singing in the church, I have always sung in karaokes, you know, where Filipinos would love to sing.

When my family realized I had a special talent, I was always asked to perform in front of guests. A neighbor heard her and asked her to join the choir.

But I didn’t actually start performing seriously until I got to America, which was nine years ago. I started singing in weddings. I was actually like the youngest soloist that they’ve ever had in the choir.

Who inspires you?

I am a follower of Christ so definitely God, and my Mom, Dad and my family. No special someone.

Where do you see yourself 5 or 10 years from now?

I want to do a lot of recording, continue to make videos hopefully touring worldwide, continuing to collaborate with other artists inspire people through my music.

How do you feel about being constantly compared to Karen Carpenter?

It’s a compliment for people to say that I sound just a little bit like her. Being compared to Karen carpenter des bring a lot of pressure, because it’s like I want to be myself but at the same time if we have that kind of similarity then I feel like I have to cover a lot of her songs.

But, I love singing her songs. It’s scary to be right next to her. I know I will never be like her she is one of a kind. It is flattering for people to say that.

An account of your journey as a musician, current projects and future plans

A lot of people want me to do a tribute album of the Carpenters but I am thinking of doing a single, here and there.  I know I will be doing a Christmas song from The Carpenters. That’s going to be fun but the title is going to be a surprise.

Her new official music video “You” by The Carpenters

“It is more produced and intimate and I brought in my fan who played the piano. It’s just the piano and my voice. The video with just the piano and vocals has a very acoustic feel.

We started at a university which had a huge piano. We recorded at first and then did the video. I can’t really say much about it, you just have to see it. We worked very hard on it.

How do you keep yourself grounded from your success so far?

I have been doing what I have been doing all along — trying to make music, inspiring people, not for fame and trying to be real with myself. Reading fans comments, it keeps me inspired as much as I inspire them.

What are the challenges that you have encountered?

I have joined in competitions before and I do not like joining singing competitions where I have to prove that I am better than everyone else. There are times when I get rejected, and I have to try again. There is definitely a time when I get discouraged, I am not good enough and will stop singing.

What music means to you?

Making music for Shane Ericks “is not about pleasing people, or chasing fame or success. I like to sing and see people happy and smiling. Music for me is a way to express myself. It is not about fame or money. It’s all about music and people.
