The defending world champions kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win over Ukraine, overcoming a jittery start. Shkodran Mustafi opened the scoring in the 19th minute, while Bastian Schweinsteiger sealed the win with in extra time.
Poland also kicked off their title chase on a positive note. They had a slow start in the opening half, but Arkadiusz Milik broke the silence with a strike in the 51st minute, which turned out to become the lone and winning goal of the match.
Robert Lewandowski failed to score but he will be a man to watch on Thursday, knowing that he is familiar with their opponents. Lewandowski played alongside German stars like Thomas Müller and Mario Götze with Bayern Munich. He admitted, though, that Germany are favored to win on Thursday, Sky Sports reported.
The winner of the match will like end up on top of Group C, with both teams favored to win in their final group assignments. Germany coach Joachim Low is expecting a tough matchup, UEFA reported. The veteran coach said that Poland are organized and dangerous because of the counterattacks.
Germany is expected to start Manuel Neuer, Benedikt Höwedes, Mustafi, Jérôme Boateng, Jonas Hector, Toni Kroos, Sami Khedira, Mesut Özil, Julian Draxler, Götze and Müller.
On the other hand, Poland will likely kick off the match with Lukasz Fabiański, Lukasz Piszczek, Kamil Glik, Michal Pazdan, Artur Jędrzejczyk, Jakub Błaszczykowski, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Krzysztof Mączyński, Bartosz Kapustka, Arkadiusz Milik and Lewandowski.
While both teams were able to impress during their opener, Germany is favored to win and top Group C. Poland are expected to give them a run for their money, but the defending champions have too many weapons at their disposal. Germany 2-1.
