Etihad Airways has been named Airline of the Year for 2015 by the U.S. aviation industry publication Air Transport World (ATW). The announcement was made during a reception in New York hosted by Etihad Airways and the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, James Hogan.
According to ATW, its editor had selected the Abu Dhabi-based airline company from a field of over 100 global competitors. To win the Airline of the Year award, an airliner must be able to show “exceptional achievements and capabilities” in various areas of the airline business, including operations, safety, customer service, labor relations and financial performance. Aside from this, the airline’s executive leadership must also be able to demonstrate “innovation and strategic thinking,” which sets it apart from the rest.
ATW said that it selected Etihad Airways as Airline of the Year for 2016 because the company has shown that it is “consistently delivering against its targets and always thinking ahead.” Moreover, the airline was praised for its innovative Airbus 380 and Boeing 787 cabin products, including The Residence onboard apartment.
Meanwhile, Etihad Airways has also unveiled its First and Business Class Lounge at the JFK International Airport. It features custom furnishings by Boss, luxurious restrooms with changing compartments, dedicated male and female ablution and prayer room, luggage storage and a library. The new JFK lounge offers bespoke cocktail and mocktail drinks that was developed in Etihad’s partner, Fluid Movement. Meanwhile, guests can also enjoy a la carte dining as well as an international buffet.
Etihad Airways flies daily between Abu Dhabi and San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, it flies three times a week to Dallas/Fort Worth.
