Juan Mata didn’t live up to expectations after joining Manchester United from Chelsea. The Spanish international is set to return to his nation as Barcelona are keen to have him in their roster.
Mata was a star at Stamford Bridge but was inconsistent under Louis Van Gaal. While he was setting fire at Chelsea, he was linked to a move at the Nou Camp. But it didn’t happen, and Mata signed for the Red Devils amid fanfare two years ago.
And the 27-year-old play-maker is also keen on a move to Barcelona to re-ignite his career, according to Don Balon. The report suggests that the Premiership giants could be open to a sale, but a move in the January transfer window is unlikely.
Mata put up an impressive show on Friday’s FA Cup match, and he could become a key man to bail out United from their attacking woos this season. United might want to retain him till the end of the season.
Another point Mata would consider before making any move is that he will be getting more first eleven football in Old Trafford than in Catalans with the Euro 2016 on the cards.
United paid £37.1 million to Chelsea for Mata, as reported by the Daily Star, but will struggle to rake up that amount of money whether the transfer is ratified in January or this summer.
