Juan Mata kicked off the scoring parade with a goal five minutes before the half-time break, while Wayne Rooney made it 2-0 in the 59th minute. New acquisition Zlatan Ibrahimovic then took a share of the spotlight, striking a 30-yard-goal five minutes later to score his first Premier League goal.

Adam Smith made it 3-1 in the 69th minute. However, his goal failed to spark a huge comeback for Bournemouth, allowing Mourinho and his team to celebrate when the final whistle sounded.
