England and Portugal will collide in an international friendly match on Thursday at Wembley Stadium. Both European powerhouse national squads are in the final stage of their preparation for the upcoming Euro 2016 later this month in France.

England will look keep their momentum heading into their Group B opener against Russia. The Roy Hodgson-led squad scored 2-1 victories against Turkey and Australia, respectively in May.

Hodgson said that he will not experiment in the upcoming friendly, as he already got a good glimpse of the players who could make impact in the European championship. The veteran manager said, though, that his starting XI for the match against Russia is not set, which means he will still take a close look at some players against Portugal.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney is set to start for the Three Lions, and could team up with striker Jamie Vardy or Harry Kane. Ryan Bertrand is expected to miss the friendly, but Gary Cahill and Daniel Sturridge will be available after missing their 2-1 victory over Australia.

On the other hand, ESPN confirmed Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the match due to fatigue after playing for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Ronaldo’s Real Madrid teammate Pepe was also given a week off, while Bruno Alves and Nani could also sit out after featuring for Fenerbahce in the Turkish Cup final.

Portugal manager Fernando Santos remains confident they will have a strong chance of winning against the Three Lions even without Ronaldo. Santos, whose team scored an impressive 3-0 win over Norway on Sunday, expects his players to step up in Ronaldo’s absence to prove they are not a one-man team.

“All my players are important,” Santos said. “Portugal is not a one-man team. I want to test my whole squad. When they booked this match we didn’t know he would be playing in the Champions League final.”
