“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo called out the media for being “irresponsible” for the widespread rumors on her alleged eating disorder and plastic surgery rumors.
The 46-year-old actress said that she has always been hit by these rumors because she was too thin.
“I used to get a lot of criticism for how thin I was, and I didn’t have a lot confidence because of it. But I was naturally thin,” she told in an interview with People.
“I always thought it was irresponsible of the media to portray me as someone with an eating disorder because if some girls look up to me and think that’s what you have to do to look like me, it’s a horrifying concept.”
She said that before the advent social media kicks in, she always listens to the negative remarks being thrown at her. She now thinks that girls who are living at this age may be dealing on it on a more difficult way.
The Grey’s Anatomy actress also acknowledged the fact that she is aging and that the “clock is already ticking.”
She revealed this was her reason why she opted to stay with Shonda Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy which she started when she was mid-20s.
Ellen Pompeo said that because she started out a little too late for Hollywood, she knows she will have a hard time landing roles when she became 30 or 40.
She said of the long running show, “And I am very happy that I made the decision to stay. It’s only gotten better with time.”
Ellen Pompeo plays as Dr. Merideth Dy for the Grey’s Anatomy, which has been running since 2005.
