WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne may be making waves right now in Rio but even more interesting is the revelation of her relationship with Amanda Clifton. She joins the list of superior athletes to admit she was gay and their unique story is something to behold.
Donne and Clifton have apparently been engaged since June 2. Proof of that is an Instagram photo that Donne posted. Prior to that, only the people close to the couple were aware of the serious relationship going on.
More Than Meets The Eye
For Donne, the revelation is not all about creating hype. She still plans to separate her private life, but the excitement of the engagement has obviously gotten the best of her.
“As the future keeps moving on, I don’t plan on having our relationship out in the public and all this media on it,” she said. “But obviously there’s excitement right now because people see it for the first time.”
Nothing To Hide
Delle and Clifton know that not all would understand their relationship, especially now that it has come out in the open. In the same way that other couples do, it will hardly matter. The two have a special union and sharing that with the world is a right no one can take away.
Delle becomes the third member of the US Olympic women’s basketball team to get into the same-sex marriage. The previous ones were Brittney Griner, who is married to Glory Johnson, and Seimone Augustus, who is tied up to actress LaTaya Varnier.

The revelation has not created any controversy as far as Team USA is concerned. In fact, it has made other players like Sue Bird proud. Delle and Clifton have been together for some time and the revelation is undoubtedly built on a strong foundation. Like most relationships carrying the same weight, this one is expected to be for keeps!
